what it's really called when it's floating in the ocean

OK I realize I'm descending into the depths of word nerd-dom here, but I thought this short piece from dictionary.com was fascinating: the difference between what is flotsam and what is jetsam, as well as the etymology of both.


Incidentally, the first thing I still think of when I hear the term "flotsam and jetsam" is this:
