The birth story of my two sweet sons is up at the Miracle Bash Blog; you can read it here. It's not the lightest read, but it is honest and tells more about what we went through last summer, and the amazing nurses who made our tough road a little bit easier.
The Miracle Bash and the Swim for Melissa events are fundraisers for the Melissa George Neonatal Memorial Fund, which raises money to purchase equipment and other items for the Level 3 NICU in my hometown, where Will spent the first 71 days of his life. He and Graham both benefitted from the cutting-edge medical equipment purchased by this amazing fund, which has raised more than $1 million for the NICU in the past six years.
The Melissa George fund was created by a local couple - Amy and Chris George - who went through an experience similar to mine in 2005, when Amy gave birth at 26 weeks to her twin daughters Melissa and Ann Catherine. Melissa died just a few hours after she was born, and Ann Catherine spent 68 days in the NICU before coming home.
You can read other stories of the babies who have been in our NICU on the Miracle Bash blog. It's amazing how many sweet preemies this fund has helped and blessed - including my own:
